Welcome to The Living Breath

Lesson 1 of The Living Breath: A Complete Guide to Chi Gong. Anyone can read this lesson with no account. Every lesson after this one is for students.

Module 1: What Is Chi?

Welcome to Cloud Forest Martial Arts Institute's chi gong course. Chi gong, also written qigong, brings together posture, breathing, gentle movement and attention. Different traditions explain its purpose through different theories of qi.

This course moves from vocabulary and preparation to standing and quiet practice, then to advanced traditions and related arts. Read the safety lesson before beginning the physical exercises. Written instructions introduce the practice; a qualified teacher can help you adapt the postures.

Begin with a manageable session and notice what actually happens. Keep a short record of comfort, breathing and attention. You do not need to produce warmth, tingling or an unusual state to learn.

Some studies suggest benefits for particular symptoms or quality of life, but results vary. Qi theory does not establish a cure for chronic illness, and the course is not a replacement for healthcare.

The hundred-day period used later in the course is a traditional commitment to consistency, not a biological deadline. Rest and necessary interruptions are part of a sustainable practice.
