Assessed multi-course certificate · non-accredited

Survival Specialist

Integrate the seven actual household, food, growing, preservation and supported field courses into a complete practical readiness portfolio. This is a non-accredited school certificate.

7 courses. One defined path.

Follow the required courses in order. Audit study is available with Academy membership; assessed enrollment adds evidence review and the program’s progression rules.

What you’ll work toward

  • Core household readiness binder
  • Growing and preservation evidence
  • Supported field and navigation evidence
  • Integrate the course evidence in a reviewed capstone.

Assessment & pacing

Each assessed lesson opens at least 2 days after the previous lesson is completed. Required assessment checkpoints also need approval before you continue.

Plan for about 23 weeks at 5 study hours per week, based on approximately 114 hours of course study. Allow extra time for revisions.

The minimum assessed practice period is 36 weeks. Studying faster does not bypass lesson waits or required approvals.

The assessed enrollment has a 450-day completion window from its recorded start. The clock pauses while submitted work waits for review. You can request a free extension if you need more time. Membership study remains self-paced while access is active. Paying or marking a lesson complete does not prove proficiency.

How an assessment passes

Each skill is scored from 0 to 4. You need at least 3 on every essential skill and at least 80% overall. Missing evidence must be resolved before approval. Feedback explains what to improve, and you can submit a revised attempt.

To earn the program award, complete the whole course bundle, required quiz passes, approved assignments, final project, and practice period. The school confirms the award separately.

Assessment 1 · portfolio

Core household readiness binder

Bring together your household, water, food and weather binder sections. Send the records, calculations and changes you made after safe practice.

Detailed assignment instructions

Submit the actual household, water, safe-food and warmth/weather binder sections with calculations, safe reference cards, dated practice/rehearsal records and drill corrections. Redact personal contacts.

See assessment criteria
  • Required result (35%) · essential
All four actual core binder sections are complete and coherent.
  • Sound decisions (30%) · essential
Water, food, heating and weather decisions follow the cited guidance.
  • Evidence and checks (25%) · essential
Calculations, records and corrections support the plan.
  • Explanation and revision (10%)
    Explain a revised decision.

Assessment 2 · portfolio

Growing and preservation evidence

Combine your growing project and food-preservation records. Send the seasonal logs, plans and source-based process records, clearly marking any permitted rehearsal.

Detailed assignment instructions

Submit the actual pilot-bed/seedling/season records and source-based preservation binder. Include soil/sun observations, growing logs, season budget, NCHFP process record and actual or lesson-permitted rehearsed batch records. Clearly label rehearsal; no unsafe food trial is required.

See assessment criteria
  • Required result (35%) · essential
The growing and preservation records meet the actual course projects.
  • Sound decisions (30%) · essential
Seasonal choices and tested-method preservation decisions are source-backed.
  • Evidence and checks (25%) · essential
Dated observations and process/source details distinguish actual work from rehearsal.
  • Explanation and revision (10%)
Explain a correction or rejected unsafe choice.

Assessment 3 · portfolio

Supported field and navigation evidence

Complete the course’s supported trip and navigation work. Send your plan, marked map, compass calculations, walk log and safety decisions.

Detailed assignment instructions

Submit the actual supported trip plan, annotated map, compass conversions, walk log, rescue report card and weather/water go/no-go decisions. Use the support required by the course and redact sensitive locations.

See assessment criteria
  • Required result (35%) · essential
The supported navigation tasks and records are complete.
  • Sound decisions (30%) · essential
Route, water, weather and seek-help decisions fit the scenario.
  • Evidence and checks (25%) · essential
Provide calculations, dated observations and corrections.
  • Explanation and revision (10%)
Explain a measurement or location uncertainty.

Assessment 4 · capstone · video evidence

Integrated readiness exercise and oral defense

Show how all seven course projects form one readiness plan. Send a YouTube walkthrough and safe practice examples, then explain how you would handle a changed situation.

Detailed assignment instructions

Provide a YouTube walkthrough of the complete binder plus safe practical/rehearsed demonstrations from the actual courses. Work through a human-reviewer scenario involving an outage/advisory change, food/temperature decision and a supported trip or evacuation plan. Connect your seasonal food plan and preservation decisions. The authorized human reviewer checks practical evidence, calculations, safe stop/seek-help decisions and corrections. No solo survival test, untreated-water consumption or hazardous fire/food demonstration is required.

See assessment criteria
  • Safe practice (35%) · essential
The authorized human reviewer confirms consent, supervision where required, safe scope and appropriate stop or withdrawal decisions. Unsafe or unapproved performance cannot pass.
  • Demonstrated task (30%) · essential
The exercise integrates all seven actual course projects rather than a checklist of lesson completions.
  • Scenario judgment (25%) · essential
Source-based water/food/weather, seasonal and supported-navigation decisions remain coherent under a changed scenario.
  • Reflection (10%)
Explain a limitation, correction and sensible next practice step.
