The art

The foundation class of Wei Family Kung Fu

Guardian Fist is where the Wei Family system begins for adults. Three nights a week you drill the basics that everything else is built on: rooted stances, the straight and circular punches of Tzu Jan Men, kicks kept low and practical, and the footwork that lets a smaller person control distance against a bigger one.

Forms are taught alongside application. You learn a movement in the set, then you learn what it does to a partner. Conditioning is part of the class, not a separate workout: stance holds, striking rounds on the bags, and body-hardening drills that build a frame that holds up under contact.

Where it comes from

衛 means to guard, to protect. The Wei Family system has been passed down through thirty-eight generations, from the Shaolin Temple through Emperor's Long Fist and Natural Fist Kung Fu, to Sifu Michael Johnson, its chief inheritor. Guardian Fist takes its name from that character and its purpose: a method for protecting the people around you.

What it does for you

Fitness with a purpose

Ninety minutes of stances, striking, and conditioning. Most students drop weight and gain a frame they can feel within two months.

Self-defense that has been tested

Every technique has an application drilled against a resisting partner. What does not work under pressure is not in the curriculum.

A complete system

Guardian Fist opens the door to Chinese boxing, combat jujitsu, forms, weapons, and Tai Chi. One tuition covers all of it.

Rank that means something

Sashes are earned through demonstrated skill in front of the lineage holder.

What a class looks like

Bow in and a warm-up that gets sweat going fast. Basics in lines: stances, punches, kicks, blocks, corrected one student at a time. A section of the current form, then its application with a partner. Bag rounds or conditioning. Bow out at 8:30 with something new in your hands.

Your first visit

Comfortable clothes, bare feet or wrestling shoes, water. Beginners train alongside senior students, who will partner with you the first night. Nobody spars until they are ready.
