Wei Family class, included in tuition
Combat Jujitsu
Clinch, takedowns, and ground control for real situations.

The art
What happens when the fight gets close
Combat jujitsu covers the range where striking stops working: grabs, clinches, takedowns, pins, and the joint locks and escapes that end a fight on the ground. It is taught for the street and the mat both, which means every technique is tested against resistance and nothing depends on the other person cooperating.
Adult Sport Jujitsu, on Monday and Wednesday, is the competitive cousin: same skills, tournament rules, more live rounds. Many students train both.
Where it comes from
The jujitsu inside the Wei Family system draws on Chinese shuai jiao and chin na and on American combat jujitsu, the lineage of Professor Tony Maynard, who advises the school. Sifu Michael Johnson, Sifu Casey Martin, and Sifu Chris Lyle teach it together on Thursday nights.
What it does for you
Most fights end up in a clinch or on the ground. This is the class that prepares you for that.
Grappling builds grip, core, and hips. The mat is the weight room.
Learning to breathe and think while someone is on top of you is a skill that leaves the mat with you.
Small groups, constant correction, nobody left drilling alone.
What a class looks like
Rolls and break-falls to warm up. Technique of the night from the instructor, drilled slowly with a partner, then with resistance. Positional rounds: start from the clinch or from a pin and work. Light live rounds for those who are ready. Bow out.
Your first visit
Athletic clothes with no zippers or pockets, nails trimmed, a rash guard if you have one. You will partner with an instructor or a senior student your first night.
