The long road to teaching the Wei Family system
The Apprenticeship is a five-year commitment to train under Sifu Michael Johnson, the 38th Generation Chief Inheritor of Wei Family Kung Fu and the Wei Family Patriarch for the United States. Apprentices train in every Wei Family class on the schedule and receive instruction beyond it: private time with Sifu Johnson, the material behind the material, and practice at teaching under his eye.
It is the road toward instructor standing in the lineage. An apprentice who completes the five years has done the work required to teach the system and to be trusted with it. Nothing about that is fast, and nothing about it is sold.
Where it comes from
Every generation of the Wei Family has been carried by people who committed years to one teacher. This program keeps that custom in Greensboro. Sifu Johnson accepts apprentices himself, after an interview, and teaches them directly.
What it does for you
Every Wei Family class is included, and the apprentice's own instruction fills in what a class cannot cover.
Private time with the lineage holder, on a schedule set between you.
Apprentices learn to teach by teaching, on the floor, corrected by the man who taught them.
The five years lead toward instructor standing under the Wei Family name.
What a class looks like
An apprentice's week is the full Wei Family schedule: Guardian Fist, Chinese boxing, combat jujitsu, forms, Tai Chi, and the Sunday internal class. On top of that, private instruction and teaching practice arranged with Sifu Johnson.
Who it is for: adults who already know they want to teach this system and can commit five years to one teacher. What it is not: a shortcut to rank, or a substitute for regular class training.
How to apply
There is no drop-in visit for this program. Request an interview and Sifu Johnson will speak with you about your training, your reasons, and the commitment. Enrollment is by his acceptance, under a five-year contract at $200 a month.
