The art

Where the forms of the system are learned and polished

TaoLu is the Chinese word for a form: a fixed sequence of movements that stores the techniques, principles, and body method of a style. The Wei Family system has dozens, from the first empty-hand sets to weapons and the internal forms. Wednesday night is the class devoted to learning them properly.

Forms are taught in small pieces, corrected movement by movement, then run at speed. Students preparing for rank tests and tournaments use this hour to clean their sets in front of an instructor.

Where it comes from

Assistant Sifu Khari Cunningham teaches the class. Forms are the library of the lineage; every set taught here has been passed hand to hand for generations and is taught the same way today.

What it does for you

Faster progress in every other class

A clean form means clean basics. Students who train forms move better in Guardian Fist and Chinese boxing.

Memory and coordination

Learning a fifty-movement set trains the mind as hard as the body.

Tournament ready

Our competitors polish their sets here before every event.

Ranks and tests

Each sash requires specific forms. This is where they get finished.

What a class looks like

Warm-up and stance work, then the group splits by level. Beginners work the first sets with the instructor; advanced students run their forms and take corrections. The class closes with everyone performing together.

Your first visit

Comfortable clothes and bare feet. Beginners start with the first form the same night.
