The art

Kung fu for kids who need somewhere to put all that energy

Kids Kung Fu is the children's door into the Wei Family system. The same stances, hand forms, and footwork the adults train, scaled to a child's body and attention span. Class runs forty-five minutes: warm-up games, basics drilled in lines, a piece of a form, then pad work or partner drills, and a bow out.

Rank is earned, never given. A child moves up when the instructor has seen the material done correctly across several classes, not because a test date arrived. That is why a Cloud Forest sash means something in the hall and on the tournament floor.

Where it comes from

The Wei Family system reached the United States through Sifu Michael Johnson, its 38th generation chief inheritor, and Cloud Forest has taught it in Greensboro since 1969. The kids curriculum was built from the adult material by the same instructors who teach it, so a child who stays with the art has a straight road into Guardian Fist Kung Fu at fifteen.

What it does for you

Focus that carries into school

Every drill demands eyes on the instructor and a still body between commands. Parents tell us about the homework table before they tell us about the kicks.

Confidence without swagger

A child who can hold a horse stance for a minute and throw a clean side kick does not need to prove anything on the playground.

Real fitness

Forty-five minutes of stances, kicks, and pad rounds. Kids leave sweaty and happy.

Respect in both directions

Instructors know every child by name. Kids learn to bow, to wait their turn, and to help a partner who is struggling.

What a class looks like

Bow in, then a fast warm-up: jumping jacks, animal crawls, a relay or two. Basics next: punches and kicks drilled in lines with the instructor correcting stance and hands. Then a section of the current form, repeated until it starts to look like everyone else's. The last stretch is the fun part: pads, shields, or a partner drill. Bow out, high fives, done.
